Abstract

The research covers future studies, in terms of its origin and concept, and its position among sciences, and to show its main objectives and principles. The researcher presented a general classification of future studies, and the research tried to answer these questions by using the descriptive analytical approach in collecting information that dealt with that topic from previous research, processing and analyzing it and then interpreting it and the most important findings of the research are:
• It turns out that there are multiple definitions of future studies.
• The term most commonly used by professionals and researchers is "future studies".
• Differing opinions about future studies. Some consider it an art, and some consider it a philosophy, but there are also those who consider it a science. Futurism, whether it is a philosophy, a science, or a curriculum, is in all cases; its goal is to explore the future in order to reach a solution to its problems.
• The main objective of future studies; It is to provide a long-term time frame for the decisions we may make today, according to a long-term view, and with a relatively long time horizon.
• Future studies are based on the principle of (continuity, symmetry, and accumulation).
• The (mixing between qualitative and quantitative methods - neutrality - participation - comprehensiveness - dynamism - complexity - universality - normative) is one of the methodological characteristics desired to be available in good future studies.
• There are many research methods in the future, namely: (previously used methods - modern methods - more widely used forward methods).
• The scenario is the final product of all future research methods.
• Future studies were classified into three main axes: (studies that dealt with the future of pre-university and university education - studies that dealt with the future of educational research – studies that dealt with the future in general).
