Abstract

Linking the scientific research institutions with industry is an important factor in making the Egyptian economy more competitive at local and global level to increase the ability to convert innovations into industrial products, meet current and future needs, and export high-value industrial products. This paper deals with the challenges of linking scientific research and innovation institutions with universities and industry research centers through a study of some indicators that reflect the relationship of scientific research with industry, interviews with researchers and a field visit to one of the research centers, to analyze that relationship and its strength or identify its weaknesses. By examining some international experiences in linking scientific research institutions with industry and monitoring the initiatives of the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology (ASRT) in this regard, some policies and mechanisms were proposed to link scientific research and innovation institutions with industry.
